GNU utils on Solaris 8

Hey Brian,

I downloaded gzip and gcc from Sunfreeware, which was all I needed to
compile the rest of the GNU tools, including the binutils package, which I
needed for some other software I use. This was on Solaris 2.6 SPARC,
though so YMMV. On Solaris 2.6 (complete install) there are two versions
of ar installed, /usr/ccs/bin/ar and /usr/xpg4/bin/ar I believe I used
/usr/ccs/bin/ar
