Netatalk

Does anyone in the group offer Netatalk (Linux Appleshare) services
over their servers? I just changed my fileserver's NIC to a cheap Encore
NIC (Realtek 81390 chipset) and shortly afterward had problems when
trying to back up a large hard drive to the server. Since this is the
first time I've tried a large contiguous backup of a drive and the other
services (including Appleshare services) on the server still seem to
work fine otherwise (small file transfers, app services, etc.), I'm not
sure if this is a hardware or software issue.
I'm currently running a basic SuSE 7.0 SMP install on a slightly
overclocked (15%) dual Celeron server with dual 9.1G IBM UW-SCSI drives
and 256MB PC100 DRAM. The problem seems to freeze up the server and once
even froze up the SCSI bus (access light locked on). The Macs in
question are using their internal 10BaseT Ethernet through a 100TX hub
(SMC) to the 100TX NIC (Encore).

My expectations are that either:

1. The modest overclocking is stressing the Realtek NIC and resulting in
corruption of the data stream or possibly even creating a lockup of the
PCI bus.

2. The N-way negotiation is imperfect and resulting in excess collisions
(or mixed up duplexing) although I have not seen evidence of that yet.

3. There is a basic instability in the motherboard although it seems to
work fine otherwise.

4. Or could this possibly be an issue of the SCSI bus?

5. Or is Netatalk inherently an issue for large files?
