firewall spontaneously disconnects from Ethernet hub

After further investigation ... the ports labeled "5" and "uplink" on
the hub are both mapped to the same LED; presumably they're connected
to the same port in the hub's guts, with different wiring (straight
vs. crossover). Ports "3" and "4" are connected to other machines on
the network and have never given me any trouble. Plugging the Linksys
cable into port "1" or "2" seems to resolve the problem.

I hadn't expected it would be *that* easy. :-)
