Diabling PnP for 3COM 509-TPO Card

You can get the DOS utility 3C5X9CFG.EXE as part of the Etherdisk:

Before you turn off PnP, be sure to use Windows Control Panel to note
where it likes to put the card and then set those same values manually.

Do not set the modem speed allowance to anything other than 9600 or some
machines will break and do funny things.

There is also no reason you cannot run the card in PnP mode under Linux
using isapnptools, provided that you use a module for the network driver.  
Unless you boot over the network with ROM TFTP or something strange like
that, there is usually no downside to modularizing the network driver.
