A most excellent choice.  I have the same one, and couldn't be more
pleased with this system that I built in August.  It doesn't have all
the nice features that the newer Tyan dual motherboards have (133 mhz
bus, ATA66, etc) but you can't beat it for compatability or price.

The kernel-HOWTO can probably get you through the "make mrproper; make
xconfig; make dep; make clean; make bzImage; make modules; make
modules_install" process without too much trouble, along with the
replies already posted to this list.

As far as DVD support goes under Linux, patching the kernel for the UDF
filesystem and DVD ioctls are the easy part.  Beyond that, you might run
into a lot of trouble with getting something to play (though I hear the
dxr2 cards work quite nicely for tv output, just watch out for the video
overlay).
