Any insight on APM on SMP machines?

Greetings again,

Does anyone have any pointers towards APM on SMP i386 hardware? When I
compile the kernel with SMP, it still winds up without APM support...

I've seen some hints at limited APM support for the 2.2 kernel
(on http://www.linuxhq.com) but nothing that clearly defines what I can expect.

The main feature I want is for the system to power off when I 'halt'.
