DAT Tape drive reliability

Does anyone use the big D2 cartridges?  At a facility I contracted at a
few years back, they had a tape silo that shuttled D2 tapes.  I'd love to impress everyone with facts and figures but I don't remember any.  Aren't
D2 tapes the same as what television studios use for regular TV programming?
