I have mixed feelings on this. While I was in the Digital Unix Development
Engineering group, Mike Rickabaugh, Lee Miller and I wrote an assembler for
Windows NT on Alpha. I became the project leader for the assembler. It was a
fun project. I worked with a lot of the guys out at DEC West as well as
several people at Microsoft. For a while, Microsoft was stealing engineers
from DEC West until Bob Palmer asked Bill Gates to stop.
Over in Unix land on Spitbrook Rd, there was a lot of anti-NT feeling. I had
lunch with Maddog in the caf the day they announced they were going to
standardize email on MS Exchange. He was not the normally pleasant person we
all know him to be :-)
