Acrobat PDF files and X11

Sounds like you're on a 256-color display, and It's being run with a
private color map, so that you will not run out of colors when you view
color documents. Though I don't know what the options are for Acrobat,
you should be able to run it without a private color map, which should
"fix" your problem, but you will likely run out of colors when you view
color documents, which may make things very difficult to see. For
example, the window manager may assign white to the color, making it blend
in with white backgrounds.

If you need to view lots of PDF docs, you should probably figure out
if/how to run your display at 16-bit color or higher, or grin and bear it.
