(Fwd) Reminder and agenda of the GNHLUG meeting Wednesday, Jan 2

The next meeting of gnhlug will be on January 29th, 1997 at Room 301,
Morse Hall on the University of New Hampshire's Durham campus.
Thanks to Rob Anderson for getting the room.

The topics will be:

I. Raffling off a copy of Applixware for Linux (Intel)

Red Hat has graciously given out a copy of Applixware (see
http://www.redhat.com/products/apx.html) for raffling off.
This is worth $79.95 for students (approximately 16 pitchers
of beer) and $495.00 for others (approximately 100 pitchers
of beer....wait, I have to stop and think about that for a
moment....)

II. Planning for the Install Fest (March 1st)

Rob Anderson and I are drumming up interest for an "Install
Fest" on March 1st at UNH. We would be installing Red Hat
V4.1 on people's systems. We need to know how many people
are interested, what types of installation media they have
(CD-ROMS, Network based, etc.), what they are running now,
and other items.

III. Planning for future meetings

One of the reasons we don't have a REAL topic is that maddog
ran out of time, but another reason is that he ran out of
ideas for meetings too. Some ideas that have been suggested
are:

o PGP (theory, practice, signing and legislative)
o Cyborgs and Linux (ask the MIT Cyborg people to
come up and talk to us about it)
o prm packaging from Red Hat (what it can do, and how to do it)

but these all were brainstormed by Rob and I today, and we need more
input from people as to what they would like to have in future meetings.

IV. PCTV's Linux Show

As you know, I have been working with PCTV to do four shows on
UNIX and Linux. Some people have complained that they could not
see the shows due to their cable companies not carrying it. I have
a copy of the Linux show on video tape, and we could show it at the
end of the meeting, provided Rob can get a TV (he thinks he can, he
thinks he can).

V. Retire to libations (as normal)

I am planning another meeting in mid-february, and will send out a date and
topic announcement once I get the room confirmed. It may be at the Concord
New Hampshire Technical Institute, which would attract some more people for
the installation fest and some new members.

Last night Bruce Dawson presented a session about Linux at Dartmouth
University in Hanover, NH. We seem to have attracted a few more people
to our list from that also.

The directions to the meeting room are below. I hope to see you there.

Warmest regards,

maddog

P.S. No, there will be no "absentee entries" for the Applixware drawing.

==========================Directions to meeting================================
Non-Richly-Formatted Directions to Morse Hall:

Proceed to University of New Hampshire, on Rt. 155A in Durham, New Hampshire

Coming in from Route 4 you will be entering the town from the west..
Continue past the tennis courts on the right, over the railroad tracks which
run under the road, and go to the first traffic light. Turn right.

You will pass a road on your right, but keep going. Eventually you will see
Morse Hall on your left and an after-hours parking lot (F lot) on your
right. Park in F lot. Proceed to Morse Hall, across the street.

On the first floor of Morse Hall you can only get into the building from
opposite sides of the building. One door is on the street side, while the
other faces the rest of campus and has only walking access. Room 301,
on the third floor (natch).
