update to suggestions

First, thanks to JABR and Jerry for the quick responses.

second here's an update to your suggestions.

    Jerry -
        1. I looked at CMOS. - everything is fine, I keep a screen
            shot and it hasn't changed.

    JABR -
        1. I used a system disk to boot
        2. called fdisk and found the following info
            fdisk
choice [4] - display partiontion information
                            no partiontions
choice [5] - change current fixed disk drive
                        disk mbytes free usage
                        1 504 504 0%
                        2 1221 1221 0%

    conclusion:
the drives are seen with fdisk but the information (master
boot record? ) is not there. My best guess is to try and run
rmv /mbr. What do you think?

                                mark j. soule

btw, I've promised my wife a brief resite after the hubbub the last
month. I'll be away wednesday but as usual I've got a "shit load" ...
scientific term ... of review thoughts I'd like to share. I'll get
them to you asap.
